Variant

Variants are used to model different types of entities that move between Flow Objects in the model. They can be used to represent the flow of material, to model resources (e.g. AGVs, pallets, workers etc), and they could be used as dummy objects for modelling features not directly supported by the software.

Note: There is a special 'wildcard' Variant named Any Variant it is used to represent any of the Variants added to the model. It can be used in Flows that should be valid for all Variants or in generic Assembly tables.

Note: Throughout this Help we will use the terms Variant, Product, and Part to refer to these movable entities (Variants).

Settings

The settings of the Variant are listed below along with a short description and possibly a link to a more detailed description about the setting.

Setting

Description

Name

Sets the name of the Variant.

Length

Specifies the length of the Variant, unit [meter]. The length and width of variants are used for determining how many that fit on a Conveyor or in assemblies that are area based instead of amount based (see Assembly tables for details).

Width

Specifies the width of the Variant, unit [meter]. The length and width of variants are used for determining how many that fit on a Conveyor or in assemblies that are area based instead of amount based (see Assembly tables for details).

Units

Amount used when each instance of this variant should represent several small units. These units can be consumed in Assemblies if the use of units are specified in the Assembly tables.

Note: Not having to model all these small units as individual objects in the model can improve the speed of the simulation significantly.
